Match Subjects to Your Goals
Think about your career. What degree do you want? Different universities have different rules.
- University Criteria: Each university sets its own subject needs.
- For example, Delhi University (DU) needs Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Math plus a language for B.Sc. Biochemistry.
- Commerce students for B.Com (Hons) might need Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics.
- Check Program Needs: Some programs need subjects you studied in Class 12. For example, some universities want Mathematics for Economics degrees.

Use Your Strengths
Pick subjects you are good at.
- Focus on Strengths: Choose subjects you do well in. If you are good at Math, take it for Engineering.
- Balance Scoring: Some subjects are easier to score in. Political Science and History can be high-scoring. These fit well with Humanities careers.
- Science Choices: Science students often choose Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
Subject Selection Checklist
Factor | Action |
Career Alignment | Match subjects to your degree goal. Physics for Engineering, for example. |
University Criteria | Check requirements for DU, BHU, and other universities you want to attend. |
Strengths | Choose subjects you are strong in from Class 12. |
Competition | Consider less popular subjects for top colleges. |
Syllabus | Ensure subjects follow the NCERT Class 12 syllabus. |
Think About Subject Combinations
Combine subjects smartly for different career paths.
- Humanities: History and Political Science go well together. Good for civil services or law.
- Commerce: Accountancy, Business Studies, and Economics are a strong combination. Ideal for B.Com.
